poesie album 2.0 challenge

the makeover of the original autograph books (we call it poesie album) is done, so why not re-establishing this wonderful tradition.

it seems to be really challenging, as our busy lives are taking place in different cities or even countries, so i had to come up with a more up to date version.

the "poesie album 2.0".

i requested my friends to share their poems, their quotes, their drawings, their scrap book ideas, their photos or any other memories they wanted to share by folded filling a DIN A 4 paper filled with and to either post it or e-mail them  to me and they will be bound into a modern version of the traditional poesie album.

the real challenge is to make the poesie album alive and this won't be possible without the contribution of all the dear people, who are willing to spend their time and effort to make it work.

to be an active social media user with a large network would be helpful at the stage 1 (making your project public), but a personal request directed to those you wish to participate in your challenge is crucial to turn this project into a personal memory.

as one of my colleagues volunteered straight away to put the beta version of the poesie album 2.0 in circulation at work, i thought i am trying to get my friends involved to spread the word around.

i'll keep my fingers crossed and keep you posted.

alternative wooden christmas tree

i really love my alternative wooden christmas tree.

about six or seven years ago, i saw this kind of christmas tree in a catalogue and immediatley fell in love...it was soo expensive that i did not consider to order one, but to ask my dad to make a similar one for me.

that was ages before i started blogging, so i did neither think of taking any pictures, nor writting a tutorial...nevertheless...there are a few people out there who did and you are more than welcome to see how they created their beautiful christmas trees.

i wood stain painted my christmas tree to match my interior and as i am still into anything black, i decorated it with small black christmas balls and black tea lights ... good that some shops were selling black christmas decor stuff this year.

i did not want to overload the wooden tree and opted to either add a christmas or a candle on each "twig"

here a closer look at my christmas tree

- apart from the christmas balls and tea lights, i bought this beautiful black star and two really plain and rustic stars, which i also wood stain painted

the bunch of real twigs are actually still the ones, i used as the advent wreath with spoons, which i made two years ago

thank you very much for your visit ... merry christmas ... and very best regards ... silke

stripped concrete numbers with sequins

of course numbers are a must for any milestone birthday celebration.

the possibilities are endless...cardboard, metal, wood, concrete, wire, yarn, and so on.

...i decided to go for my favourite concrete alternative, which is called moulding compound, it turns out smooth, even and pure white...if you are planning to go for a black and white design, i does save you a bit of painting.

the colour gold is another must for any 50th anniversary...for weddings and for birthdays...and sprinkling a few golden sequins onto the black and white striped numbers seemed to be a great idea.

this is what you need

- moulding compound

- silicone number moulds

- rubber bowl

- water

- swizzles stick

- tape

- scissors

- black paint

 - brush

- golden sequins

- glue

this is what you have to do

- pour moulding powder an water into the rubber bowl and stir thoroughly, according to the instructions on the package

- pour the liquid into the silicone moulds and let dry

- carefully remove the numbers by flipping the silicone moulds

- aren't they beautiful

- get your tape and scissors ready

- cover the numbers with stripes of the tape to mark the section, you want to paint

- cut the strips, using your scissors

- it might look like this

- and this

- get your paint and brush ready

- start painting the letter, leaving out the tape covered parts

- carefully remove the tape strips

- also paint the all sides of the numbers

- get your glue and your sequins ready

- add the sequins to your striped numbers

- and that's it

i hope you enjoyed the tutorial...you are more than welcome to take a look at the entire milestone decoration...thank you very much for stopping by...best regards...silke

too many candles cake

how funny is that...a "too many candles cake"... just candles...too many candles and no more space for the actual cake...this is cracking me up.

...it is simply impressive...simple and impressive.

there are a lot of 50th birthdays to come and for sure, i am going to make one for each and every birthday party.

...if this is something, you might consider making yourself...here is a little hint...get yourself christmas tree candles instead of table candles.

they are way smaller, much easier to handle and less expensive.

this is what you need

- fifty christmas tree candles

- elastic band

- satin ribbon

- scissors

- small cake stand

this is what you have to do

- get your elastic band and your scissors ready

- cut the elastic into your desired length, i chose to wrap the elastic twice around the bunch of candles

- create a loop by tying the elastic band

- get your fifty candles ready

- place as many candles in one of your hands as you are able to hold and fix them with your elastic loop

- place the remaining candles into the bunch, candle by candle

- here we go

- get your satin ribbon and your scissors ready

- cut your ribbon into your desired length

- place the ribbon on top of the elastic and make a bow

- get yor cake stand ready

- place the bunch of candles onto the cake stand and adjust the length of the ribbon, if necessary

- et voila

- the "too many candles cake" is done

- isn't it beautiful...???

the inspiration for the "too many candles cake" was found here.

i hope you enjoyed the tutorial and may surprise someone with this special "cake"
